PLEASE SIGN THESE PETITIONS TO PARLIAMENT TO REGULATE SUNBED USE...

skin cancer infoSkcin are pleased to have accepted an invitation from leading sunless tanning brand St.Tropez to join their Parliamentary Lobbying Group for the beauty industry. The group is campaigning for greater awareness, education and safety regulations for the use of UV tanning in the UK. The APPG, which is being spearheaded by Sian James MP, is calling to ban all coin-operated sunbeds in the UK and to prevent any under 18 year old from using sunbeds of any kind. It also plans to introduce health and safety regulations for all sunbed shops, gyms and salons.

An on-line petition in support of this campaign requires 10,000 signatures which will then be presented to Parliament, alongside the groups mandate for change. The Parliamentary Lobbying Group will be combining its strengths to campaign for better legislation and education and will consist of key influencers within the industry and Parliament, as well as the media and the world of celebrity. This is the first step to implementing effective change and saving lives.

SIGN A PETITION TO THE PRIME MINISTER TO BAN THE USE OF SUN BEDS FOR UNDER 18s AND THE USE OF COIN OPERATED SUN BEDS

Following the recent announcement from the International Agency for Research into Cancer (IARC) at the World Health Organisation reclassifying sun beds from a medium risk to the highest risk category for risk of causing cancer (effectively putting sun beds into the same cancer causing risk category as asbestos), and continuing the campaign by several skin and cancer organisations, including the Skin Care Campaign, SKCIN, Cancer Research UK and the Teenage Cancer Trust, the SCC has launched a petition to the Prime Minister asking him to ensure that legislation is passed as soon as possible to ban the use of sun beds by under 18 year olds and that a total ban is put on the use of all coin operated sun beds.

* Recent evidence has shown that the increased use of sun beds by children is damaging their skin and could lead to skin cancers in the future * Skin Cancer is now the most common form of cancer in the UK * More than 1800 people die from skin cancer every year and that is increasing by 10% every year * It is not unknown for children as young as 8 years old to be badly burned by use of sun beds.

As an added campaigning tool the SCC will be writing to every MP raising their awareness and asking them to sign the petition

Please add your support by signing the petition at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Sun-beds/
